Kaltroco has invested in Smile America Partners, the Farmington Hills, Michigan-based operator of school-based mobile dental programs, PE Hub reported. The transaction brings new backing to a healthcare services business that, with its dental practice partners, reached more than 370,000 children in more than 8,000 schools across 20 states in 2025, according to PE Hub.

Smile America Partners will remain under the leadership of chief executive Steve Higginbotham and its current management team, PE Hub reported. The available details did not include the size of Kaltroco’s investment, the valuation of Smile America Partners, or the ownership stake acquired.

School-based delivery model

Smile America Partners was founded in 1997 and provides dental care through a school-based mobile format, according to PE Hub. In that model, care is brought into schools rather than requiring families to arrange visits at fixed dental offices. The approach can place providers closer to children during the school day and can be scaled through partnerships with dental practices.

The 2025 reach figures reported by PE Hub indicate a broad operating footprint for the company. Serving more than 8,000 schools across 20 states gives Smile America Partners exposure to multiple local education and healthcare markets, while the more than 370,000 children reached provides a measure of program volume.

Leadership continuity

PE Hub reported that Higginbotham and the existing leadership team will continue to run the business following Kaltroco’s investment. Continuity of management is often relevant in healthcare services transactions because operating relationships, clinical delivery processes and local market knowledge can be central to execution. No additional management changes were reported.

The report did not disclose whether the investment will be used for expansion, operations, acquisitions or other corporate purposes. It also did not provide details on financing structure or any other transaction participants.

The deal comes in a healthcare services segment where providers use distributed delivery models to reach patients outside traditional office settings. Based on PE Hub’s reported figures, Smile America Partners has built a multi-state platform over nearly three decades, with schools serving as the access point for its dental programs.
