Finextra’s Countdown to Sibos webinar is scheduled for 3 September 2026, bringing treasury and payments questions around artificial intelligence, instant payments and operational control into focus ahead of the industry conference in Miami. The online event begins at 15:00 BST, 16:00 CEST and 10:00 EDT, according to the organiser.

The session is a pre-conference discussion rather than a set of published conclusions. Its title asks who controls value in an AI-driven economy, but the event listing does not define “control of value” or identify an actor expected to prevail.

Instead, Finextra’s agenda points to practical areas where corporate treasury teams may face new choices: access to financial data, visibility over liquidity, payment processes, links between networks, and governance of automated decision-making. Scott Hamilton, a global payments and liquidity expert and Finextra contributing editor, is listed as moderator. No other speakers are identified in the listing.

What will the Countdown to Sibos webinar cover?

Finextra says the session will consider how AI could affect treasury, payments and financial decisions across an enterprise. The organiser presents APIs, which allow software systems to exchange data, as a route to more timely financial information. It also describes AI as a potential tool for forecasting, liquidity planning and risk management.

Those potential uses sit alongside questions raised by real-time payments. When funds move immediately, treasury teams may need processes and controls that can operate on the same timetable while maintaining oversight of cash positions and payment risk. Finextra also flags cross-border payments and interoperability, meaning the capacity for banks, corporates and technology providers to connect across different financial infrastructures.

  • AI’s possible role in enterprise finance and treasury decision-making;
  • real-time and cross-border payment operations;
  • interoperability between established and emerging payment infrastructure;
  • tokenisation and programmable money; and
  • the balance between innovation, resilience, trust and operational control.

The listing frames operational resilience, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, third-party dependencies and supply-chain disruption as concerns for treasury leaders. It does not provide evidence that any particular technology resolves those risks, and presents the subjects as issues for discussion.

The webinar comes before Sibos 2026, which is due to run from 28 September to 1 October at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The official Sibos site gives the conference theme as “Digital finance for AI-driven economies”; it says the programme will address connectivity, global interoperability and resilience as AI creates new forms of value.

For treasurers, the common thread is less a settled answer on ownership of value than the controls around it. The materials identify data, liquidity visibility, payment execution, network connections and risk oversight as the points that the September discussion intends to examine.
