Monterro has acquired a majority stake in Mors Software, a Finnish provider of banking software for treasury, asset liability management and risk. The companies said the investment is intended to support Mors’s international expansion, with emphasis on the United Kingdom and Europe, and to increase spending on product development and artificial intelligence capabilities.
No financial terms for the transaction were disclosed. Monterro said the deal is its third majority investment in Finland’s software market.
Mors Software supplies integrated asset liability management, treasury management and risk management tools for banks and other financial institutions. Its systems are designed to help clients meet regulatory obligations, monitor financial risks and manage balance sheet complexity.
The company’s platform brings treasury management and asset liability management onto a common data layer. In practice, that means banks can use one system to view funding, liquidity, profitability and risk exposure rather than transferring information between separate treasury and risk applications. Mors and Monterro said this structure is intended to reduce manual workflows and improve real-time visibility for decision-makers.
UK is Mors’s largest market
Mors serves traditional banks, specialist lenders, financing institutions and digital banks across Europe and other international markets, according to the companies. The United Kingdom is its largest market, followed by Sweden and Finland.
The companies framed the transaction against a backdrop of heavier banking regulation, pressure on profitability and the need for faster product launches. They said many financial institutions continue to rely on older systems and manual processes, while digital banks need infrastructure that can expand as their businesses grow.
Petri Makkonen, co-founder of Mors Software, said the company’s aim has been to make advanced treasury and risk management available to banks of different sizes. He said banks should not have to devote significant resources to moving data between systems rather than serving customers and expanding their businesses.
Iina Mustakallio, chief executive of Mors Software, said banks are increasingly seeking a single source of data for treasury and balance sheet management. She said Monterro’s backing would allow Mors to speed up product development, widen its international footprint and increase investment in AI functions for banking software.
Monterro sees data-rich platform
Johan Blomdahl, growth excellence lead at Monterro and the new chair of Mors Software’s board, said Monterro was attracted by Mors’s customer-focused culture, its record of international growth and its platform architecture. He said the architecture gives Mors a richer data base than peer systems and could support AI tools that assist treasury and risk decisions.
The companies said they plan to use the partnership to position Mors as a provider of integrated treasury and risk management software for next-generation banks. They did not disclose governance details beyond Blomdahl’s appointment as chair, nor did they provide revenue, customer or workforce figures.
