UK bank transfer problems were reported across several lenders and banking apps on Monday, with customers citing delayed payments, failed transfers and money not appearing in accounts, according to media reports and bank service updates. The disruption touched high-volume retail providers including Barclays, Lloyds, Halifax, HSBC, Monzo and Revolut, creating operational friction for customers relying on real-time payments.
Barclays’ UK service status page showed an online banking issue at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time, according to PYMNTS. The bank said some customers were having trouble opening savings accounts, including ISAs and bonds, through online banking, while adding that the function remained available in its app.
Revolut’s UK system status page showed an issue affecting transfers at 3:50 p.m. Eastern time, PYMNTS reported. In a reply to a customer on X, Revolut Support said its team was addressing a service disruption that could affect GBP transfers and was working to resolve it.
Which UK banks had transfer problems?
GB News reported that Barclays and Lloyds customers posted on X about payment and transfer problems, including cases where funds had not appeared in accounts. Downdetector’s UK site recorded increased reports for both banks, with complaints involving fund transfers, apps and online banking, according to GB News.
Lloyds told one customer on X that it was investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments that could cause delays, GB News reported. The same report said Lloyds replied to individual customers, while its service status page showed no scheduled maintenance.
Metro reported that customers of Barclays, Lloyds and Halifax were having trouble accessing accounts and making transfers. The Sun also reported issues at those three banks, saying customers were experiencing problems with fund transfers and app-based payments.
A Lloyds spokesperson told The Sun: “We’re aware some customers are experiencing delays in making faster payments.” The Sun reported that customer complaints about Barclays, Lloyds and Halifax began around midday local time and peaked about two hours later. At the time of its report, Downdetector showed 348 issue reports for Barclays, 269 for Lloyds and 169 for Halifax, according to The Sun.
The Manchester Evening News reported issues at HSBC, Revolut and Monzo, as well as Barclays, Halifax and Lloyds. The report cited a Monzo reply to a customer on X in which the app-based bank said it was aware of a temporary issue and was working on a fix.
What is Faster Payments?
Faster Payments is a UK payment rail used by banks and payment firms to move sterling between accounts, often near real time. When a provider reports delays on Faster Payments or GBP transfers, customers may see outgoing payments held up or incoming funds take longer to arrive.
The reports did not establish a single cause linking all the institutions named. Based on the public updates cited by media outlets, the confirmed issues varied by provider, with some referring to Faster Payments or GBP transfers and Barclays identifying an online banking problem related to opening certain savings products.
