Cutting Edge Group has acquired music rights and royalties from the catalog of film and television composer Brian Tyler, PE Hub reported. Financial terms and the specific composition of the rights package were not detailed in the report.
The transaction adds work by a composer whose credits include the Yellowstone television franchise, according to PE Hub. Catalog acquisitions of this type can give the buyer exposure to royalty income linked to the ongoing use of music in film, television and other media, depending on the rights included in the deal.
Cutting Edge is an established buyer and manager of media music assets. PE Hub said the group currently has more than 400,000 owned and/or managed media music rights in its portfolio, with a valuation of more than $1 billion.
Composer profile
Tyler’s career has included both film and television work, with industry recognition across several awards bodies. PE Hub cited 51 BMI Music Awards, three Emmy nominations, five ASCAP Music Awards, a BAFTA nomination and 12 Goldspirit Awards among his laurels, including Composer of the Year.
The acquisition places Tyler’s catalog within a broader portfolio built around music created for screen-based media. Such catalogs can generate revenue when compositions are used, licensed or otherwise exploited through rights and royalty channels, subject to the contractual rights acquired.
PE Hub categorised the deal within sports and entertainment. No further information was provided on advisers, closing timing, financing, or whether Tyler retained any continuing interests in the catalog.
