Mindoula, a Silver Spring, Maryland-based healthcare company backed by Equality Asset Management, has acquired Janus Healthcare Partners and Valera Health, PE Hub reported. Financial terms for the two transactions were not reported.
The acquisitions bring together three businesses operating in behavioral health services, a segment drawing attention from health plans, hospital systems and primary care groups seeking broader support for patients with complex needs. Mindoula works with healthcare organizations that serve individuals and families who can be difficult to engage, according to PE Hub.
Janus Healthcare Partners is based in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and operates as a psychiatric collaborative care company. Valera Health, headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, provides a virtual mental health platform.
Steve Sidel, Mindoula’s founder and chief executive, said health plans, health systems, primary care groups and hospitals are increasingly looking for behavioral health providers able to cover a wider set of needs for populations with complex or rising risk profiles. He also said those customers are seeking providers prepared to enter risk-based arrangements across the care continuum.
“The combination of Mindoula, Valera, and Janus gives both our existing partners and new partners the opportunity to work with a single behavioral health provider that can power their whole person care initiatives across all their service lines,” Sidel said, according to PE Hub.
Behavioral health consolidation
The deal adds two distinct service lines to Mindoula’s platform. Janus contributes psychiatric collaborative care, a model that supports integration of psychiatric expertise with other clinical settings. Valera adds virtual mental health services, giving the combined company a digital channel for behavioral care delivery.
PE Hub identified Ralph C. Derrickson as chief executive of Valera Health. Nicholas Tcherepnin is co-founder and chief executive of Janus Healthcare Partners.
Valera Health was founded in 2015. Janus Healthcare Partners was founded in 2020.
Equality Asset Management is the private equity backer of Mindoula, according to PE Hub. The report did not cite additional transaction details, financing arrangements, valuation metrics or changes to management following the acquisitions.
