United Flow Technologies announced the UFT Iron Horse acquisition on August 6, expanding its stated water and wastewater equipment and field-service coverage in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. The announcement did not disclose transaction terms, including a purchase price, financing, closing conditions, employee-retention plans, customer-contract arrangements or an integration timetable.
Iron Horse Environmental is based in Fairview Village, Pennsylvania, and supplies water and wastewater treatment equipment and services to municipalities, industrial customers and engineering partners. The business becomes part of UFT’s group of regional brands, extending a private-equity-backed company that serves municipal and industrial water and wastewater markets.
UFT is a portfolio company of Berkshire Partners, a private-equity investor. Mergr separately lists the transaction as an add-on acquisition dated August 6, but provides no deal value.
What does the UFT Iron Horse acquisition add?
Iron Horse’s stated offering covers pumping, mixing, solids handling, odor control and disinfection. Its services also include equipment selection and design, installation, parts and ongoing maintenance. Those capabilities add regional equipment support and field service for municipal utilities and other water-infrastructure customers in the three-state area.
The announcement says Iron Horse holds CoSTARS authorization, which it describes as streamlining procurement for public entities. It did not provide further details on the authorization or explain how it will be used after the transaction.
For water and wastewater operators, equipment distribution and field support cover a range of work around treatment systems, from specifying equipment to installation and maintenance. UFT said the combination is intended to strengthen its ability to serve municipalities and utilities with equipment and longer-term service support.
Regional focus remains central to the deal
Matt Hart, UFT’s chief executive, said Iron Horse had built its business around technical support, equipment and service for municipal operators, and that its team would join the UFT platform. Anthony Picozzi, Iron Horse Environmental’s president, said the transaction would give the company access to a national platform while retaining its regional focus and hands-on work with Mid-Atlantic municipalities.
The acquisition follows separate UFT announcements in February covering CS3 Water Works and Principle Environmental, which were intended to expand the company’s Southeast and Florida capabilities. Those transactions were distinct from the Iron Horse deal.
The Mid-Atlantic water and wastewater offering now combines Iron Horse’s local presence in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware with UFT’s broader municipal and industrial water-treatment operations. Beyond that stated capability fit, the announcement gave no detail on how the businesses will be integrated or whether Iron Horse will continue to operate under its existing name.
