AE Industrial Partners has appointed retired Rear Admiral Leonard Dollaga as an operating partner, adding a former senior US Navy official to its national security investment work. The AE Industrial Leonard Dollaga appointment will focus in part on maritime opportunities and on support for portfolio companies exposed to federal defense processes.
The Boca Raton, Florida-based private equity firm had about $9 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2026, according to PE Hub. AE Industrial invests across sectors tied to national security, where federal budgeting, legislation, procurement and policy can materially affect company strategy and growth.
In the new role, Dollaga will work on identifying and evaluating potential investments across national security markets, with maritime among the areas of emphasis. He will also assist portfolio companies as they address government processes that influence the US defense industrial base, including budgeting, legislation, acquisition and policy matters.
Who is Leonard Dollaga?
Dollaga is a retired rear admiral who joined AE Industrial in 2024 after more than 30 years in the US Navy. His most recent government post was chief of legislative affairs for the Department of the Navy, where he served as the principal legislative adviser to the Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations.
Earlier in his Navy career, Dollaga held senior undersea and submarine commands. His roles included Commander, Submarine Group 7, and Commander, Undersea Warfighting Development Center.
David Rowe, co-chief executive officer and managing partner at AE Industrial, said Dollaga brings operating leadership, maritime knowledge and strategic perspective to the firm. Rowe said Dollaga’s experience with the Department of War, the Department of the Navy and the Washington national security environment is an asset for AE Industrial’s portfolio companies.
What will Dollaga do at AE Industrial?
AE Industrial said Dollaga will help the firm assess new investments in national security sectors and advise portfolio companies on the federal mechanisms that shape defense markets. In that context, an operating partner role is tied to practical company support and investment diligence rather than a purely financial or administrative function.
The appointment links AE Industrial’s private capital work with Dollaga’s experience in naval operations and legislative affairs. For companies serving defense customers, policy timelines, appropriations cycles and acquisition rules can affect revenue opportunities and execution, making government expertise relevant to both investment review and portfolio operations.
PE Hub reported the appointment in its financial services coverage. The firm did not disclose any transaction, fundraise or portfolio-company change alongside the personnel move.
