Falfurrias has made a growth investment in FactorLab, a Pleasanton, California-based company that applies artificial intelligence to workplace risk, according to PE Hub. The report did not state the size of the investment, the valuation or the ownership stake acquired.

The capital is intended to support FactorLab’s next stage of expansion. PE Hub reported that the funding will go toward further development of the company’s proprietary artificial intelligence and machine learning technology, expansion of its commercial organization and entry into adjacent industries.

FactorLab is led by Barry Nelson, who serves as founder and chief executive officer, according to the report. In connection with the investment, Piers Wells will serve as a director of the company.

The transaction places FactorLab within a segment of enterprise technology where investors are funding software that uses data and automated analysis to assess operational risk. In FactorLab’s case, the reported use of proceeds indicates a focus on product development and go-to-market capacity rather than a single stated acquisition or restructuring plan.

Growth investments typically provide companies with capital for expansion while allowing them to continue operating under existing management, though the precise structure of Falfurrias’ investment in FactorLab was not detailed in the report. The appointment of a director alongside the financing gives the investor a formal role in governance as the company pursues its stated expansion plans.

PE Hub categorized the deal in technology. No additional information was reported on the timing of the closing, the source of funds used by Falfurrias or FactorLab’s current customer base.
