Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has entered a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno family. The Stan Kroenke Angels sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary conditions and Major League Baseball approval, the club said.
The parties did not disclose financial terms. However, The Athletic and The Wall Street Journal, as cited by Forbes, reported that the transaction values the Angels at $4 billion. The Athletic described that figure as an MLB-record valuation.
The reported valuation should not be read as an announced purchase price or a breakdown of the assets changing hands. The official announcement confirms only that KSE will acquire a controlling interest; the supplied reporting does not specify the ownership percentage or transaction structure. It also does not establish whether a regional sports network is included in the deal or assign any value to one.
What must happen before the Stan Kroenke Angels sale closes?
MLB must approve the transaction, and the parties must meet customary closing conditions, according to the Angels’ announcement. Until those steps are completed, the proposed ownership change remains an agreement rather than a completed sale.
Arte Moreno bought the club in 2003, and the transaction would conclude his 23-year tenure as owner, MLB.com reported. Moreno said the family had been honoured to steward the franchise and regarded KSE, given its experience and record, as the best next owner.
Kroenke, KSE’s owner and chairman, described the Angels as “a storied franchise anchored in a great market” in the announcement. His group’s entry into baseball would add an MLB club to a portfolio that already includes the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, the National Lacrosse League’s Colorado Mammoth and Arsenal Football Club, according to CNBC and MLB.com.
KSE also owns SoFi Stadium and the adjacent 300-acre Hollywood Park district in Inglewood, California, CNBC reported. The Angels acquisition would therefore extend Kroenke’s interests in Southern California sports and entertainment, while adding a team in a fourth major North American professional league to the group’s holdings.
CNBC valued KSE at more than $26 billion in its June ranking of sports empires. That estimate is separate from the reported Angels valuation and is not a disclosed term of the proposed transaction.
