Finextra has scheduled its payments exceptions webinar, held in association with Pega, for 1 December 2026. The online event begins at 15:00 GMT, 16:00 CET and 10:00 EST, and will examine how banks might offer corporate clients self-service options when payments encounter problems.

The event listing identifies cross-border payment problems as its central example. It says businesses often want to know the status or location of a payment but may still submit inquiries by email or telephone, then wait for a response. The session will consider which self-service channels matter to companies, the circumstances in which artificial intelligence is useful, and how banks can avoid moving an existing queue into a different digital channel.

What will the Finextra payments exceptions webinar cover?

According to Finextra, the proposed self-service model extends beyond a single app or contact point. The listing describes real-time payment tracking, proactive alerts intended to stop an inquiry before it is raised, contextual requests, and machine-to-machine connections from a client’s treasury system.

Payment tracking would give a company status information on a transaction. Contextual requests would allow a request to be launched in relation to the payment in question. The listing presents those elements as topics for discussion, rather than evidence of a system already in use or a promise of faster resolutions.

Finextra says large language models may be used to interpret free-text emails and unstructured documents. It also says AI agents can gather information, triage cases and analyse data to flag anomalies. The listing adds that a structured process may be more effective than AI in some situations.

Why does the back office matter for self-service?

The event description says digital intake alone is insufficient. In its view, every channel should connect to a single case, while an operations team must be able to resolve that case promptly. Without those links, Finextra warns that a self-service channel could merely create another inbox for unresolved work.

The webinar is due to feature Joerg Reuter, a specialist solutions consultant at Pegasystems, with Finextra contributor Jane Cooper as moderator. Finextra frames the programme as a discussion of how banks can connect client-facing channels with back-office payment investigations, and how to apply AI where it is useful.
