Finextra’s real-time intelligence webinar, held in association with MariaDB, is scheduled to take place online on Thursday, December 3, 2026. Finextra lists the session for 15:00 GMT, 16:00 CET and 10:00 EST, and says it will examine technology-roadmap issues facing financial institutions in 2027 and beyond.

The event, titled “An industry in motion: Why real-time becomes the foundation for everything in 2027”, is a webinar listing rather than a report of industry results. Its claims about how financial-services technology may develop are discussion propositions from the organisers and sponsor-associated event material, not independently established forecasts.

What will the Finextra real-time intelligence webinar cover?

According to Finextra’s listing, the agenda will consider whether real-time capabilities are moving from a competitive differentiator to an expected feature of financial services. It will also address the evolving separation between operational and analytical technology estates.

A central question posed by the event is whether the speed of access to data should be treated as a constraint on decision-making, alongside the sophistication of models. The listing frames the competitive issue as the amount of data an institution can bring to a decision, rather than decision speed alone.

Further planned topics include:

  • compliance questions raised by real-time systems and open-source technology;
  • data sovereignty, data residency and record-level control;
  • fraud-management strategies that use real-time data as artificial intelligence becomes more widely embedded in financial services; and
  • data portability across on-premises, sovereign and public computing environments.

What technology problems does the event identify?

Finextra says institutions can face difficulty in releasing data held in separate parts of their technology estates. The listing argues that past modernisation efforts have often added individual systems, leaving organisations with overlapping technology stacks and inconsistent decision logic.

The webinar will consider consolidating overlapping decisioning mechanisms and directing investment towards areas that have the greatest effect, according to the listing. It also presents portability between on-premises, sovereign and public environments as a potential point of differentiation for institutions that achieve it.

On open source, Finextra’s event description identifies sovereignty, residency and record-level control as operational considerations. It also raises, without presenting evidence of an outcome, the challenge of privacy rules and the prospect that AI-generated code could increase demands on human review.

The programme places these questions alongside the increasing use of AI in financial services, experimentation with agentic AI and changes in financial-crime prevention. Those themes are proposed subjects for the panel discussion; the listing does not provide performance data, named speakers or findings demonstrating that the predicted 2027 shift has occurred.
