TD Bank Group has announced a TD Bank COO departure, saying Taylan Turan will leave the lender less than a year after taking the role of group head and chief operating officer. The bank disclosed the move on September 3 as part of a wider senior-management reorganisation, with several appointments taking effect on September 4.
TD did not provide a reason for Turan’s departure and did not identify an executive who would take over his COO responsibilities, according to The Canadian Press. The bank’s announcement likewise said only that Turan would leave TD as the leadership changes took effect.
Turan joined TD on September 29, 2025 and reported to Raymond Chun, TD’s group president and chief executive, The Canadian Press reported. Before joining TD, Turan was global chief executive of retail banking at HSBC and had also held positions at Barclays and Citigroup.
In its September 3 announcement, TD said Turan had contributed to its transformation work, operational changes and AI-related capabilities. That description is the bank’s assessment of his tenure.
Why is TD Bank’s COO leaving?
TD has not disclosed why Turan is leaving. It also has not said whether another executive will hold the COO role on an interim or permanent basis, leaving the allocation of those responsibilities unspecified.
Which executives were appointed in TD’s reshuffle?
The changes place several functions under newly designated senior leaders. Vlad Shpilsky was named group head of Global Technology and Solutions. TD said he would continue to lead that organisation, which he had already been heading.
Renu Gupta was appointed senior executive vice-president and chief strategy and commercial officer. TD said her remit brings together enterprise strategy, corporate development, digital assets, payments, partnerships and procurement. Gupta joined TD in 2020 and had been executive vice-president of corporate development and chief financial officer of TD Securities, according to the bank.
Paul Whitehead was appointed senior executive vice-president of Global Corporate Services. In addition to his existing responsibilities, he will take responsibility for global corporate affairs and enterprise AI, TD said.
Chun said the appointments were intended to bring capabilities together and strengthen accountability. He thanked Turan for his leadership and wished him well in TD’s statement.
The personnel moves are the latest leadership changes under Chun. The Canadian Press reported that Chun assumed the chief executive role after TD was fined more than US$3 billion by US regulators in 2024 over anti-money-laundering failures.
